Objective
To create a music video costing almost nothing, for an up and coming punjabi music artist. Placing a redacted sentence here to add body to the objective. Redact. The music video must complement the song to enhance the overall audience experience.
Approach
Listening to the client and the track, we found out the music production blew up their entire budget. The result was a genuine and soulful track filled with deep heartbreak emotions. We came to a conclusion that the track required a simple music video with very less visual elements. The goal — a music video that subtly adds to the ambience of the song, but allowing the song to take the center stage and shine by itself. We came up with the concept of shooting an unplugged style music video to give the song a sense to gravitas by connecting the audience to not just the song's lyrics, but the singer's emotions as well.
Action
Since spending was not an option, we set up an indoor recording studio set by utilizing the available items and shot the entire video lipsynced to the song in an uncut take on a Redmi K20 Pro smartphone. Since budget smartphone camera sensors are tiny leading to loss of details and ample noise, optimal lighting and monochrome color grading were utilized to give it a raw cinematic look, perfectly complementing the uncensored heartbreak emotions of the song.
Result
The result was a raw cinematic unplugged style music video, made on a crunch of funds, that outperformed the label's past songs by more than 3x views, watch time, and interaction. The track eventually became a pivotal point in the label's growth on music platforms.
